What is Coaching and How Can It Help?

Coaching can help you in all areas of your work and personal life including improving leadership skills, developing decision-making, relationships with your staff and peers, enhancing innovation and creativity, stress and time management, establishing control in meetings or sensitive issue handling and all in all, identifying your goals and achieving them.

Coaching is based on helping the client go through a journey of exploration.

Guiding                By using the right type of questions the coach helps the client to understand where they are at this particular point in time and those areas that they would most like to focus on.  He/she helps the client to identify the desired state for each of those focal areas and to articulate what they look like.

RAM (Reality and Moving On) Behaviour           the coach helps the client to look at what is holding them back and preventing them from achieving their goals.  These barriers may be superficial or very deep rooted.  Either way the coach will help the client to look at what options exist to move on from this current state, explore each of these in turn and to decide which ones to work with.

Action plan         naturally actions need to arise from this discussion and the client will identify and own these.  He/she will agree with the coach and the extent of each action, what is required and the timescales within which they are to be completed.

Follow up            coach and client get together and have a reality check to understand what has happened in the interim, the movement that has been made and what else needs to be done.
